About KUMBAYA

Rooted in culture. Built for everyday people.

Binya was built around a simple idea: people deserve support that feels human. Whether somebody needs papers served, help finding resources, or wellness care, the experience should be clear, respectful, and easier to understand.

Gullah Geechee culture is living culture.

Gullah Geechee communities developed along the southeastern Atlantic coast, especially in the coastal Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida. The culture carries strong West and Central African continuities that can be seen in language, foodways, storytelling, music and spiritual traditions, crafts such as sweetgrass basketry, and relationships to coastal land and water.

Gullah is an English-based creole language shaped by contact among speakers of many African languages and English. For generations it was dismissed by outsiders as “bad English.” Today, researchers, cultural institutions, and Gullah Geechee communities recognize it as a distinct creole language with its own history, patterns, and cultural importance. Keeping the language visible matters because language carries memory: family sayings, humor, worldview, rhythm, history, and ways of understanding community.

What shows up in the Binya brand

  • Gullah Creole slogans and everyday language
  • Coastal, marsh, river, path, and land imagery
  • Warm earth tones alongside deep greens, teals, golds, and indigo-inspired color
  • References to movement, community, care, and finding a way through
  • A commitment to keeping cultural references specific, researched, and respectful

What Binya is trying to feel like

Not a courthouse portal. Not a hospital hallway. Not a confusing agency website. Binya should feel like somebody competent answered the phone, explained what happens next, and actually helped you get there.

The three divisions are different, but the promise is the same: clear support, fewer unnecessary barriers, and respect for the person on the other side of the paperwork.

Meet the founder

Daria Porter, AMFT, MA is the founder of Binya. Their professional background is in mental health and community-centered support, and the larger Binya model is being designed to bring practical services, resource navigation, and wellness together without making people feel like they need a dictionary to ask for help.

Daria is building Binya as a long-term organization — not just a one-person side business. The plan is to develop clear systems, train staff, create jobs, and eventually have teams carrying out day-to-day process serving, navigation, operations, and support work.
